Deibert Wins Hyndman on First Playoff Hole
The William Hyndman III Memorial Classic (sponsored by Callaway Golf, PGA Tour and O'Conner Hats) ended the way a majority of this year's events have ended...with a tie. Adam Condello, an Aronimink GC assistant shot a 4-under par 66 early in the day at Huntingdon Valley CC. It looked like he was going to win by a shot, but Travis Deibert (Commonwealth National GC) had other ideas.
Deibert had six birdies paired with only 1 bogey en route to a 5-under par 65. There were only seven groups behind him, so he waited to see what the outcome would be. Overbrook GC assistant Scott Hunter came in three goups later and with 5 birdies, 1 eagle and 2 bogeys, one of which came on the 18th hole, to finish tied with Deibert at 5-under par 65. A sudden death playoff took place with play starting on the first hole. Both players missed the fairway on their drives setting up difficult approach shots. Both players missed the green with their second shots, Deibert in a greenside bunker with Hunter over the back of the green. Deibert's bunker shot rolled to within 2 1/2 of the hole , while Hunter's chip stopped at about three feet. Hunter putted first and missed tapping in for a bogey. Deibert was able roll in his par putt and secure the win.
The win was Deibert's second points victory of the season and third win overall, he has moved into 4th palce in the Haverford Trust Company Player of the Year standings. Stu Ingraham (M Golf Range) who finished the day with a 1-under 69 and tied for 7th, still holds the lead in the Haverford Trust Company Player of the Year points competition. George Forster (Radnor Valley CC) once again took the Senior division win and has jumped into the lead in the "Skee Riegel" Senior Player of the Year points race, overtaking Bill Sautter (Philadelphia Cricket Club) for the first time this year. Deibert also won the top prize in the PAO (Professional Assistant's Orginization) which was run in conjunction with the main event. |
