Deibert Ends Season With Match Play Victory

To say that Commonwealth National GC assistant professional Travis Deibert had a good year would be an understatement.  Deibert started the year by winning the Haverford Trust Co. Championship, followed that by getting married and then came back to win the Hyndman Memorial, the Shawnee Open and finally the Match Play Championship.  In between he finished fifth in the Callaway Golf National PGA Assistants' Championship.  With his win in match play he moved to second in the Haverford Player of the Year points.  After a bye in the first round of match play at Little Mill CC, Deibert won 5 & 4 over David Nevatt, then took on Bala's Bill Walker whom he beat 3 & 1.  Deibert match with John Appleget (Cape May National) went to the eighteenth but Travis prevailed to win 1 up.  In the semi-finals he faced Sea Oaks assisistant Jason Panter.  The match went back and forth with neither player making any putts for a win.  On the back nine Jason's drives started missing the fairway and Travis was able to capitalize on his few mistakes and win 3 & 2.  In the bottom bracket senior professional George Forster (Radnor Valley CC) was doing a march of his own.  After a bye he took on Andy Watters (LuLu CC) and won 3 & 1, then met John Tyrell (Thor Guard, Inc) and won 6 & 5.  His match in the afternoon was with Player of the Year Stu Ingraham (M Golf Range).  George could do no wrong and Stu couldn't do anything right.  George won that match 6 & 5.  His semi-final match was against another senior professional Mike Mack (Burlington CC).  George got out to another quick start winning the first four holes.  Mack fought back, but finally lost 6 & 5.  In a very good, back and forth final match, Forster gave Deibert all he could handle, finally losing on the last hole.
