Message from Dan Haskell - December 2011

As we wind down the final days of our 90th Anniversary celebration, I want to thank the committee members, headed up by co-chairs Mr. Pete Trenham, PGA and Howard Cohen, for all of their insight and collaboration in highlighting what the Philadelphia Section PGA represents. I especially want to thank Pete Trenham, who as Section Historian, provided the information for each of the Moments in Section History featured weekly on the section website that culminated 90 years ago from that inaugural December 2, 1921 Section meeting. Thanks Pete!!

Going forward, I am honored to serve as your next Section President and will continue to uphold the traditions and policies that our past Officers and Directors have set forth on your behalf. I encourage all of you to get involved, as I have experienced, you will undoubtedly get more in return.

There is no question at this time that our industry has suffered a setback the last few years. But, as my elder peers will attest, we as a group always manage to weather the storm with hard work and perseverance which makes us stronger PGA Professionals, to grow this great game.

I recently attended the PGA Leadership Conference with Geoffrey Surrette, Ian Dalzell and Mike Moses. We all left the conference with a greater insight about the facts of what GOLF 2.0 represents for all of us…Protect the core, engage the lapsed and drive new players. I encourage all of you to take the time to review this initiative set forth by our Association at www.golf20.net.  Now is the time to showcase our worthiness to our clubs and employers on how important we are!

I wish to thank Honorary President Mark Anderson for his guidance and leadership while serving with him on the Executive Committee. A special thank you also goes out to all of the outgoing committee members for their dedication and commitment in serving the Section membership.

Congratulations to Jeff Kiddie and John Rogers for their achievements as National Award recipients. We all look forward to attending and honoring you both at the PGA Show in January. Congrats Guys!!!

I welcome the opportunity to talk to any Section member for any reason or issue. Drop me an email. I can be reached at dhaskellpga@gmail.com.

In closing, I wish everyone a safe and joyous holiday season. If you get the opportunity, please stop by the Section office on December 22nd for some holiday cheer and more importantly to thank our Section sponsors for their continued support- They mean a lot to us!!!

Dan C. Haskell, PGA
President, Philadelphia Section PGA
