Section Members,
I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving with your families. As we approach our slow times this winter, it is important to reflect on the past and look forward to what 2010 will bring. I ask that all of you take some time and log on to www.pgalinks.com and watch the PGA Annual Meeting video. Click on the following link and log in –
If you want to be recharged after a long year and get some great ideas to help you with next year, watch this video. There are some great moments, and I would like to highlight a few of them. Every year our leaders work hard to come up with an exciting program for the delegates at the meeting. They hit a homerun with the opening segment this year. The State of the Industry and Employer Panel Discussion was outstanding. Leaders of the golf industry, owners of management companies, and facility owners got together and gave us their outlooks and honest opinions of where things are and what the future brings. This was extremely informative and had everyone talking about it for 2 days.
The Past President’s remarks are both entertaining and full of good ideas. It is always nice to see 2 of our own Section members up on stage sharing their thoughts. Jack Connelly and Dick Smith Sr. always do a great job inspiring the delegates with their wisdom. J.R. Carpenter’s speech is a must see as he had the whole room in stitches.
There are some moving tributes as well. The tribute to Past President Max Elbin was very well done and inspiring. What an amazing professional he was. The tribute to the African American Golf Pioneers was incredible, and shows what a long way the PGA has come over the years.
Every year after attending the meeting, I always come back excited, recharged, and proud to be a member of the PGA. I hope you will take some time and watch this video, I promise that you will not be disappointed.
There were two points I took away from the meeting that I will not forget. The first was that it is important to “reset the switch” and really look at the way you do things. It is important during a difficult time to try something different. The second thing was to treat each day as if it were your first day of employment. This fresh outlook can really change the way you operate yourself and your business.
I wish you all the best with your offseason planning and activities, and hope you have a great Holiday Season. Please send me an email if you want to share some ideas or thoughts. You can reach me at Lefty67@aol.com.
