Philadelphia PGA Section Partners with Workhorse Brewing Company

Lower Gwynedd Township, Pa. (July 7, 2021) — The Philadelphia PGA Section is proud to announce a partnership with Workhorse Brewing Company, a King of Prussia-based brewery committed to crafting a top-notch experience in all phases of their operation under the mantra “Beer Made Right.” The company also operates the Workhorse Tour, a competitive amateur golf tour with the unique benefit of flexible scheduling.

As part of the partnership, Workhorse will support Philadelphia PGA pro-am team events, including:

  • PGA REACH Philadelphia Pro-Am Championship
Monday, July 26 at Bidermann G.C. in Wilmington, Del.
  • Summer Pro-Lady Team Championship
Wednesday, August 25 at Sunnybrook G.C. in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
  • A.B. Thorn Memorial Pro-Am
Thursday, September 23 at Lancaster (Pa.) C.C.
  • Philadelphia PGA Centennial Pro-Am Championship
Monday, October 18 at Saucon Valley C.C. in Bethlehem, Pa.

Additionally, for every Workhorse Tour Blonde Ale draft sold in the Workhorse Taproom, the company will donate $1 to PGA REACH Philadelphia, the Philadelphia PGA’s 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, to support its mission to positively impact lives through the game of golf and its programs such as PGA Jr. League, Golf in Schools, PGA HOPE Philadelphia for military veterans, and the Philadelphia PGA Junior Tour Diversity Scholarships.

“The Philadelphia PGA is delighted to partner with Workhorse Brewing Company, an organization that is dedicated to not only to brewing great beer, but engaging with golfers in our region.” said Section Executive Director Geoff Surrette, PGA. “We believe that our partnership will encourage golfers to play more often, benefiting our facilities, and elevating the brands of the Section, PGA REACH Philadelphia, and the Workhorse Brewing Company.”

As part of the agreement, the Philadelphia PGA Section will promote the Workhorse Tour to amateur golfers in the area. The tour brings the competitive spirit and tournament format of professional golf to recreational players in Greater Philadelphia, with the bonus of flexible scheduling and real-time scoring powered by industry leader Golf Genius. Weeklong tournaments are hosted at different public courses from May through October, allowing golfers of all abilities to tee it up at their convenience, earning points to climb the season-long standings and earn a spot in the Tour Championship.

“Since our inception, Workhorse has always sought unique ways to differentiate ourselves in the highly competitive world of craft beer,” said brewery Co-Founder and Tour General Manager Dan Hershberg. “The Workhorse Tour is a creative way to achieve that goal and by allowing for competitive golf to be played on a flexible schedule, it also helps solve a real problem for amateurs everywhere. We’re excited to be able to offer something of value to both golfers and our retail partners, and having the support of a terrific organization in the Philadelphia PGA gives us a tremendous opportunity to do just that.”

About the Workhorse Brewing Company

Workhorse is driven by a simple statement: without quality, there cannot be growth. Opened to the public in 2018, Workhorse Brewing has been committed to that mantra from the start, beginning with a substantial investment in a top-of-the-line German brewhouse and a sparkling 70,000 square-foot production facility in King of Prussia. Led by award-winning brewmaster Nate Olewine and an accessible, approachable brand that resonates with its local market, Workhorse has emerged as one of the top craft breweries in the region, quickly scaling distribution throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. Carried by all major grocery chains including Whole Foods, Wegmans, Giant and ACME, as well as hundreds of bars, restaurants and beer distributors–and now dozens of golf clubs–Workhorse proudly carries on the craft tradition of a long line of high-quality microbreweries in Pennsylvania.
