Andrew Cornish Leads 2025 GALV Lehigh Valley / Reading Open Following Record-Breaking Round
Kutztown, Pa. (July 7, 2025) — PGA of America Golf Professional Andrew Cornish of Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa., leads the 2025 GALV Lehigh Valley / Reading Open after breaking the Berkleigh Golf Club men’s course record in the opening round. Cornish’s 9-under-par 63 gives him a one-stroke lead over Rolling Green Golf Club’s Braden Shattuck, PGA. The Rolex / Haverford Trust Company Philadelphia PGA Player of the Year points event’s final round is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8 at Moselem Springs Golf Club.
Cornish carded an eagle, eight birdies, and one bogey en route to his first-ever course record.
“I had only played Berkleigh once before, when this event was held here a couple of years ago,” Cornish said after signing his scorecard. “This is my first course record. It’s pretty special.”
Berkleigh’s women’s course record is also a 63, set by Se Ri Park in 2002, during the LPGA Tour’s annual tournament hosted by Reading’s own Betsy King.
LuLu Country Club’s Trevor Bensel is in third place at 7-under-par, followed by Laurel Creek Country Club’s Dave Quinn at 6-under-par, and Merion Golf Club’s Joanna Coe at 5-under.
Earlier this year, Moselem Springs Golf Club, in collaboration with Berkleigh Golf Club, announced the return of the Reading Open, an iconic professional tournament that was a regular PGA Tour stop in the 1940s and 1950s, previously held at storied venues such as Berkshire Country Club and Reading Country Club. With past champions including legends like Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, the tournament is being reimagined for a new generation of PGA of America Golf Professionals, while honoring its prestigious roots.
Dave Quinn leads the Senior Division by three strokes over Dave McNabb, Applebrook Golf Club. John Pillar, Country Club at Woodloch Springs, is in third place at 2-under-par. There is a tie atop the Super Senior Division, with Wayne Phillips, Lehigh Country Club, and PGA Life Member Rob Shuey both at 2-under-par.
Twenty-three amateurs are competing alongside the PGA Professional field, with John Keba and Robert Linepensel leading the race for Low Amateur at 3-under-par. James Boburka is in third place at 1-over par. Brady Gallagher and Will Eberz are tied for fourth at two-over.
The Philadelphia PGA Section’s Central Counties Chapter is hosting an event concurrently with the Lehigh Valley Open, and Glen Brook Golf Club’s Alex Knoll leads the way at 4-under-par. Brian Buskirk, Honeybrook Golf Club, is in second place, two behind Knoll, followed by Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort’s Brian Bergstol at 1-under-par.
