LOWER GWYNEDD, Pa. – Tony Perla of (Norristown, Pa.) won the National Car Rental Philadelphia Assistant PGA Professional Championship Monday, August 1 at Concord Country Club in Concordville, Pa.

“I hit a lot of good shots in the afternoon giving myself a number of good chances which helped me get comfortable ”, said Perla, the Assistant PGA Professional at (Philadelphia Cricket Club). “I’m excited to go down to the Championship and represent the Philadelphia Cricket Club and the Philadelphia PGA. I have some history down there so hopefully I can parlay that into some good golf.”

By winning, Perla qualified for the 40^th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, Oct.  27 – 30, at PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The facility will be hosting its twenty-first consecutive Assistant PGA Professional Championship.

Perla, 28, posted a final-round -3 (68) for a tournament total of -7 (135) and a one-stroke victory over Jordan Gibbs of (Philadelphia, Pa.).

“I’m excited to have qualified since I just missed out in last year’s championship, said Gibbs, the Assistant PGA Professional at (Gulph Mills Golf Club). “I’m hoping to have a little home course advantage when I go down there since I’ve worked there in the past.”

Perla and Gibbs will be joined by Michael Little (Lansdale, Pa.), Corey McAlarney (Olyphant, Pa.) who both carded a 36-hole score of -5 (137) as well as and Greg Matthias (Haddonfield, NJ) who finished the tournament at -4 (138).

The 132-man field for this year’s 40^th edition of the Assistant PGA Professional Championship consists of the top 4 finishers from last year’s championship, if eligible and assistants based on the average number of players in the last 5 years (using actual number of eligible players starting each Section’s Championship).

The winner of the 40^th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship earns $9,000 out of a total purse of $100,000. The top-70 finishers and ties after the second round will make the cut.
