PGA Member David Cartwright Leads Team to Victory in Weather-Shortened 2023 Philadelphia PGA Stableford Team Championship Presented by Parx Casino®
Pine Hill, N.J. (July 5, 2023) — PGA Member David Cartwright led his team of amateurs, Mike Torrissi Jr., Frank Kohute, and Ryan D’Imperioto, victory in the 2023 Philadelphia PGA Stableford Team Championship Presented by Parx Casino® at their home course, Trump National Golf Club Philadelphia. The event is also supported by the AGS Tour, Precision Pro Golf, and the PGA Tour. Due to severe weather, the afternoon wave of tee times were ultimately cancelled.
Each team consisted of one PGA Professional and three amateurs, while the event’s Stableford format was two Better Balls of four. The Stableford points were awarded as follows: Bogey or higher, 1 point; Par, 2 points; Birdie, 3 points; Eagle, 4 points; and Double Eagle, 5 points.
The host team made fourteen birdies and three eagles to finish the event with 91 net Stableford points, topping Yardley Country Club’s Rick Hughart, PGA, Greg Buliga, Paul Rogowicz, and Doug Baron; by one point. Cartwright’s PGA assistant professional, Jakob Gerney, and his team, Keith Evans, Andre Amoroso, and Chris Norton, finished in third place with 83 points, followed by Indian Spring Country Club’s Curtis Kirkpatrick, PGA, Sam Spuhler, and DJ DeStefano, with 82 points, and four teams in fifth place with 80 points.
Hughart’s Yardley C.C. team tied for first place with Cartwright’s team in the Gross Division, with both teams finishing with 78 points. Jim Smith, PGA, of the Philadelphia Cricket Club, and his team, Scott Storck, Kevin Kelly, and Pat Dougherty, finished in third place five points behind the winners, followed by Green Pond G.C.’s John Kulhamer, PGA, Phil Ries, John Mace, and Charles Leon at 72 points. The Indian Spring team finished in fifth place, tied with Gerney’s group, at 70 points.
A highlight from the event came in the form of a hole-in-one from amateur Travis Good of Honeybrook Golf Club; it was his second-ever ace, holing it with a 9-iron from 127 yards on No. 13. Well done, Travis!
