Huntingdon Valley, Pa. (July 5, 2022) — Philadelphia PGA Member Parks Price of the Country Club of York in York, Pa., won the 2022 William Hyndman Memorial Classic at Huntingdon Valley Country Club by two strokes, dodging not only his competitors, but rain drops.

As has become a bit of a tradition at the Hyndman Memorial Classic, summer storms threatened most of the afternoon, but luckily did not amount to much more than a few rain drops. The wind the front brought in however, tested both the morning and afternoon waves, on an already firm and fast golf course.

Parks had an impressively unique scorecard: he recorded 17 pars and one birdie, on the par-4 ninth hole.

“It was a good day out there,” Price said of his round. “I kept the card clean, which is always fun. I had a lot of five footers; if you can make five-footers, that can be the name of the game. Putting my name on the Hyndman Trophy…you just cannot go wrong with that.”

Price went on to thank his wife Maggie, the Hyndman Family and Huntingdon Valley Country Club for hosting, the Country Club of York membership and staff, including PGA Head Professional Kevin Bales, General Manager / COO Bryan Danehy, and the Philadelphia PGA Section for running the tournament.

Three PGA Members tied for second place, all of whom teed off in the morning wave, at 1-over-par: Rich Steinmetz, Spring Ford C.C.; Mark Sheftic, Lookaway G.C.; and John Cooper, Green Valley C.C. PGA Professionals rounding out the top five at 2-over-par: Dave McNabb, Applebrook G.C.; Michael Young, Brookside C.C.; and Trevor Bensel, Sandy Run C.C.

The event is a Philadelphia PGA Rolex / The Haverford Trust Company Player of the Year tournament and the third Silvercrest Cup qualifier of the year. Beginning this season, the Silvercrest Cup series will include four qualifying events for Philadelphia PGA Professionals, and will culminate in a $30,000 Silvercrest Cup final, hosted at Gulph Mills Golf Club in King of Prussia, Pa. For more information on the season-long race to the Silvercrest Cup, click here. In addition to receiving the winner’s share of the purse, Price also took home an additional $3,000 from the Silvercrest Cup qualifier bonus pool; Steinmetz, Sheftic, and Cooper will share $2,000 for the second place bonus pool.

Steinmez and Cooper tied atop the Senior Division, each topping McNabb by one stroke, and Brian Kelly, Bucknell G.C.; by three. Wilmington C.C.’s Bob Lennon and Deerwood C.C.’s Greg Farrow tied for fifth at 5-over-par.

In the Super Senior Division, Bill Sautter, Philadelphia Cricket Club, took the top honors after his round of 75, 5-over-par. Darryl Lock, Skippack G.C.; finished in second place two behind, while PGA Life Member Michael Versuk finished at 8-over to finish solo fourth. Kevin Shaw earned fifth place.

Trevor Bensel defeated Michael Young with a par on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff for the Philadelphia Assistants’ Organization (PAO) event. Andrew Cornish, Cedarbrook C.C.; Alex Willey, Burlington C.C.; and Alex Knoll, Glen Brook G.C.; tied for third place at 3-over-par.

About William Hyndman III 
William Hyndman III was one of the most accomplished Philadelphia amateur golfers in history. Hyndman’s resume developed early by winning the 1935 Philadelphia Amateur at the age of 19; he ultimately accumulated three Philadelphia Amateur titles, 10 Patterson Cup crowns, and six Silver Crosses. Hyndman also made nine Masters Tournament appearances and made a hole-in-one on Augusta National G.C.’s 12th hole. By the time Hyndman ended his golfing career, he had competed in 50 USGA championships, including playing on five Walker Cup teams and winning two U.S. Senior Amateur titles.
